What better way to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day than with a beverage involving Irish whiskey. The Irish Coffee cocktail is traditionally made with Irish whiskey, hot, strong coffee, lightly whipped cream and a hint of brown sugar.
The recipe has travelled with the Irish diaspora, and there are many variations. We go back to the source for this week’s Seasonal Sips and feature a recipe for “the original Irish Coffee” from Foynes Flying Boat Museum in Limerick, Ireland.
Ingredients:

Ingredients for Irish Coffee
Method:
Warm an Irish Coffee Mug by putting a spoon in it and filling with boiling water. Let stand for five seconds and empty.
Put “a good measure of Irish whiskey” and one teaspoon of brown sugar in the mug.
Fill the mug almost to the brim with hot, strong black coffee.
Pour lightly whipped cream over the back of a spoon into the mug. The cream should float on top of the coffee, not mixed in as the drink is traditionally imbibed through the cream.
Serves one.
